Easy Tiger debuts new kids’ comedy series Caper Crew on ABC

Easy Tiger’s Caper Crew will debut on the ABC

Australian production company Easy Tiger will make its debut in the kids’ television sector next month with the launch of the ABC commissioned series, Caper Crew.

The 10-part comedy series attracted funding from the ABC, international distributor Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF), Screen Australia and Screen NSW.

The Caper Crew was created with inspiration from the true stories of the 1960’s ‘Kangaroo Gang’, a notorious cabal of Australian jewellery thieves who executed heists through Europe. In the modern retelling, two suburban siblings discover that their glamorous con-artist grandmother Queenie is part of the notorious former gang.

ACTF head of content Bernadette O’Mahony told C21 that Caper Crew follows a tradition which started with shows like Round The Twist, high-quality uniquely Australian comedy series, full of fun, quirky characters, clever dialogue and a slightly zany world full of twists and turns. Shows that don’t take themselves too seriously.”

She added that the global appetite for Australian children’s television is still “punching well above its weight.”

“Both with broadcasters and most importantly audiences, we’ve seen Little Lunch beloved by children in the UK on Netflix and now the BBC. The Inbestigators continues to find new audiences across the globe year on year, as demonstrated by its continued appearance in the Netflix Top 500 years after release, as well as now on France Télévisions,” O’Mahoney said.

The series is produced by Yingna Lu with set up director Guy Edmonds and starring Tina Bursill (Strife) as Queenie, along with Annie Maynard (Colin from Accounts) and Michael Theo (Austin).
